Winter Sleep Must Haves From A Pediatric Sleep Consultant
With winter coming, one of the biggest questions I get to what to dress baby in during the colder months. One of the biggest things to keep in mind is safety, as we don't want baby to get too warm while sleeping either! Ideal nursery temperature is between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit, with a slow fan on to circulate the air around.
I've put together this list for you all to help you get the best sleep possible this winter!
Humidifiers:
With all the illness that can happen in the winter, having a great humidifier will help those stuffy noses and dry skin.
<- Safety 1st Cool Mist Humidifier
Night Lights:
Lights that shine low and in yellow or red are best to help light your way safely to your little one, but don't block melatonin production. Newborns are used to very dark environments, so having the room as dark as possible aids in good sleep for them as they grow.
<- Hatch Baby Night Light and Sound Machine
Toddler Clocks:
After 2.5 some children may wake early and attempt to come out of bed or come into their parents room. These clocks help remind toddlers to stay in bed until an appropriate time. Super helpful come Daylight Savings!
Swaddles:
Science shows babies sleep better when swaddled to help combat their natural startle reflex. These two swaddles are made of thicker material to help keep your little one warm on cold nights.
Sleep Sacks:
After 12 weeks, babies should be weaned from a swaddle (more about how to do that transition here!). Since blankets aren't recommend until after age 1, a sleep sack is perfect to keep the blanket on your little one with their arms free.
Blankets:
After age 1, children are safe to use a blanket in their crib or bed unattended. These blankets are super warm and cozy! Before thinking of a weighted blanket however, ensure to check with a doctor or OT to ensure the weight and use is appropriate for your child.

Sound Machine:
Sound machines work wonders to drown out outside noise for little ones and ensure they sleep through uninterrupted. Be sure to find one that goes all night long, even the sound disturbance from the sound machine turning off could be enough to wake your little one. The Dohm is my absolute favorite - we have 3!
I hope you found some amazing products from this list to help get through the winter sleep months! If you are still struggling with sleep, or have questions about your little ones sleep, I'm here to help!
