How Working With A Sleep Consultant Now Will Save You Weeks/Months/Years Of No Sleep
Sleep is one of those things that I don't mess around with. For as long as I can remember, way before becoming a sleep consultant, I have placed a huge value on sleep. Yes, even as a kid. I was never the child that refused a nap. In fact, I was the child that didn't stop napping, and would nap daily after coming home into high school! Even on the weekends if there was a big party. If I had to wake up early the next day, I knew I had to leave early to get some sleep in. Knowing myself, I know I cannot function on little sleep. I am a solid 8 hour a night type person, but 9 is even better! I think becoming a sleep consultant was just always in my destiny!
Somewhere along the line our society started to place more value on people who "burn the midnight oil" and "hustle after dark" to get things done. Mom's report proudly on Facebook that they got the least amount of sleep due to their baby being up at all hours.
But it doesn't have to be that way!
Yes, motherhood is hard. Especially if you have a child that doesn't sleep great.
But it doesn't have to be that way! If you are getting less than 8 hours a sleep a night, and it is because your little one isn't sleeping well, there is help! Don't suffer through another sleepless night while trying to "mombie" through the days!
The Longer The Routine, The Harder to Break The Habit
Thinking about any habit you may have had that you wanted to change, the longer you have done that habit, the harder it is to break! Maybe you have been a chronic nail biter. If you catch it and make the change in behavior, it is easier than if you have been doing it for 20+ years. It is the same for your little one! As a sleep consultant I work with children up to age 4, but the biggest ( and fastest!) successes happens in the younger ones. If a little one has developed some habits around sleep, a child who is only 4 months will have an easier time changing their routine than a child who has done the same thing each night for 20 months.
But that does not mean if your child is on the older end they are hopeless and you should accept your sleepless fate? NO! It is NEVER too late to help your child develop some amazing independent sleep skills. And on the other end, it is never too early. Parents can start helping little ones develop healthy sleep habits from birth.
Why Use A Sleep Consultant Over Doing It Yourself
If you have ever looked into doing some sleep training for your little one, you will know that there are endless resources. The amount of articles and blog posts is plentiful. While they are all *mostly* wonderful and I'm sure most of the methods are ones that actually work, it's hard to know what will work for your little one. Maybe you have tried one or two, but they haven't given you the success you are looking for. Maybe it even made your sleep issues worse.
The problem is these plans aren't tailored to your family. With generic advice it is hard to adapt it to your families schedule, beliefs, comfort level. Maybe you have wasted days/weeks/months on trying to find a sleep plan that works for you. Working with a sleep consultant (like me!) will give you an individualized sleep plan to follow that meets your families current needs and goals, as well as support you through the process. What Past Clients Have Said
So many times I have had clients say "My only regret is that we didn't do this sooner.". Thinking of the success they had and how amazing they are sleeping now, it can be hard to look back and know that this could have been their situation much sooner.
Just imagine, what would your life look like if your little one was sleeping consistently during the day and night. Would you have the time to catch up on work? Spend quality time with your spouse? Enjoy a good wine and Netflix binge? Do the dishes without someone pulling the wet dishes out (although no one likes doing dishes)?
"Since working with Jensine, it only takes our son a couple of minutes to fall asleep and most nights he's sleeping through the night. His naps at home have gotten easier too. We have uninterrupted time after he is asleep and I'm not always bracing myself for the next wake up. Now I can go to sleep easier and stay asleep for much longer stretches which is life changing! It's also great to put him down at nap time instead of holding him and not getting anything done. Jensine did a great job of working with our comfort level and lifestyle to make a plan that worked for our son and us as a family. When things didn't go quite as planned, she was able to adapt quickly so he continued to make progress. Having a coach through this process was helpful and also reassuring since it didn't go well when we tried on our own. The mail and personal touches she added were much appreciated!" - Lauren, mother of a 11 month old
